A quiet, gallery-like website and logo for a stained glass artist.

About Hilary
Hilary Ruxton is a stained glass artist who works with richly coloured glass, adding fused inclusions, textures and bubbles to give each piece depth and movement. Alongside her own work, she takes on commissions such as the Abundance Window, The Gulf Stream and Lights in the Darkness.
What they needed
For an artist, the website is the portfolio. Hilary needed a site that let the glass speak for itself, told the story behind her work in her own words, and gave potential commissioning clients a way to get in touch.
Designing the logo
We designed Hilary’s logo to sit quietly alongside her work rather than compete with it, using a simple wordmark that carries through the website.
Planning the site
We agreed a sitemap that works like a small gallery:
- Home: Hilary’s approach in her own words, with featured commissions
- Bio
- Gallery
- Commissions: a page telling the story of each major piece
- Some inspiration and The future
- Contact: email and Instagram
The design uses generous white space and large images, so the colour in the glass does the work.
The build
- A page for each commission, with photographs and the story behind it
- A gallery of finished pieces
- Pull quotes from Hilary on her process, placed between images
- Social sharing on commission pages, and a link to her Instagram
